The much-awaited Segal Connect Partner Summit finally took center stage from July 15 to July 18. According to our executive director, this was a once in a year kind of summit which she had never been a part of. The anticipation to meet and connect with fellow partners from the SADC countries where Segal Family Foundation supports gave her the enthusiasm to look forward to the event.
In the previous years, Segal Summit would normally take place as an annual event where all countries in Africa would convene in one country for a thrilling week of networking and learning. This year, smaller groups convened in their African regions such as the Southern Africa Summit which Malawi was the host.
The event hosted in Malawi provided partners and funders the opportunity to learn and network as well as ask the most difficult questions to improve the operations of organizations. The summit included deep conversations about fundraising, communications, financial models and loads of netweaving (networking) opportunities.
One key take-away from Tadala, our executive director is that this summit is like no other summit, it allowed funders and partners to be in one space. It gave equal opportunity for all to meet and connect for growth. Partners got to connect and build relationships at the same time, partners met potential funders for scaling up. For MATCH Foundation, it was AMADE that was heavily impressed with our work. AMADE is a French NGO that works to protect and support children in need around the world. It carries out projects in the fields of education, health, emergency, and advocacy. AMADE’s Secretary General, Jerome Froissart was hosted at a site visit both at the Bingu National Stadium and the Tadala abc Primary School. He went back to Monaco with conviction, that is, to promote the scale up projects at the school. The foundation has now scheduled a virtual call with the AMADE team coming up later in the month on 27th August.
It is for such opportunities that the Segal Summit really connects funders to partners to increase their funding base and build capacity for organizations’ development.
