Breaking Ground : Tadala Ngosi Represents Youth Voice in National Budget Planning

In a significant milestone for youth participation in the national budget statement, our Executive Director, Tadala Kandulu Ngosi, participated in the Ministerial Pre-Budget Consultations for the 2025/2026 National Budget at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC). This invitation represents a critical opportunity for youths to directly influence in strategic national economic planning.

During the consultation, she articulated key priorities identified by youth stakeholders, focusing on transformative initiatives designed to address economic challenges and create sustainable development pathways. The proposals centered on three strategic areas:

  1. Technical Education Advancement: An intensified approach to agricultural engineering education in technical and community colleges, aimed at strengthening skills development and creating more robust human capital development.
  2. Economic Diversification through Sports Commercialization: Completing the comprehensive sports facilities like the Griffin Saenda Complex and the National Aquatic center, with the strategic vision of hosting international games that can generate crucial foreign exchange for the country.
  3. Revenue Generation and Fiscal Resilience: Proposing enhanced tax compliance measures to generate domestic revenue, particularly in light of reduced international aid such as the USAID withdrawal. This approach emphasizes building financial self-sufficiency and economic independence.

The engagement underscores a profound commitment to collaborative governance, where youth perspectives are not merely heard but actively integrated into national planning processes. By providing a platform for young voices, the Government of Malawi demonstrates its dedication to inclusive and forward-thinking policy development.

As we reflect on this momentous occasion, we express our gratitude to National Youth Council of Malawi and the Ministry of Finance for creating this collaborative space. We are optimistic that the ideas shared will contribute meaningfully to shaping Malawi’s future, reinforcing the critical role of youth in national development.
