At just 16 years old, Gift Patrick from Mtandile township in Lilongwe is already navigating challenges that would overwhelm many. Growing up in a broken home, repeating several classes and almost dropping out of school, Patrick has faced emotional struggles stemming from personal shame to his parents’ separation. He admits that encountering her mother in public often leaves him feeling ashamed. Life at home has not been easy either, as his stepmother’s ill-treatment creates an environment that affects his ability to fully concentrate in class.

Despite these hardships, Patrick paints a picture of resilience and transformation. A Standard 8 learner at Kamkodola Primary School, he recently secured position 12 out of over 3000 learners in the 2026 Lilongwe City Zone mock examinations. While many would celebrate such an achievement, Patrick remains determined to do even better.

Every swing tells a story of hard work

Patrick is also in the Under 16 Malawi Tennis National Team, balancing his academic ambitions with his passion for sport. “I give credit to my success and discipline to MATCH Foundation, which I joined in 2022. Through after-school lessons, mental health program, and structured sports programs, the organization has helped me stay focused and committed to my goals.” he explained.

Patrick’s journey is a powerful example of resilience and hope. His message to other young people facing similar struggles is simple: never give up on your dreams. We take pride in his success as we continue to shape his pathway life journey.
