Our Programs Coordinator received the winning award from the World Bank representatives

On November 14, 2024, Edward Luwanja led Team Zambezi to victory at the World Bank Youth Debate Challenge, demonstrating the exceptional intellectual capabilities of African youth. The international competition focused on the critical question: “Should governments focus on quality of education now rather than expanding access?”

Representing Malawi and team Zambezi, Edward Luwanja delivered a compelling performance that transcended typical competitive debate. Their arguments addressed complex educational challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, challenging conventional perspectives with remarkable insight.

Team Zambezi’s victory was more than a competition win; it represented a powerful evidence about youth potential and intellectual capacity. The team’s success highlighted the ability of young African intellectuals to propose innovative solutions to critical societal issues which indeed puts the emphasis on quality of education as the core foundation to better results.

Edward’s representation symbolizes the capability that MATCH Foundation’s team has. By captaining the Zambezi team and leading it to victory, showcases remarkable critical thinking and strategic argumentation which are useful for policy advocacy both on national and international level.
