Hastings with MATCH Team and school staff exploring the new school garden for the agricuture project.
In a nation where agriculture forms the backbone of economic survival, a transformative vision emerged through an inspiring collaboration. Our executive director invited Hastings Nhlane, CEO of ACADES to our school with to bridge the gap between agricultural theory and practical experience for students.
Nhlane, who once held a traditional view of farming as a low-income pursuit, has since experienced a model shift. Through ACADES, he now oversees a network of over 8,000 farmers across Malawi, cultivating diverse crops and making significant strides in the agricultural sector. Inspired by this transformation, he also concurs with the idea to make the agriculture subject more practical for our students.
This partnership will see the development of an innovative agricultural initiative at Tadala abc Primary School by establishing an on-site practical garden which aims to reshape students’ perceptions, from theory to casting away stereotypes on farming to showing them that farming is not just about dirty hands, but about cultivating opportunities for economic empowerment.
“Who knows,” Nhlane reflected, “this might be the first step in a transformative journey turning classroom learning into real-world success through agriculture.”
The proposed school agricultural project represents more than an educational program. It’s a demonstration to a belief that our school can be used as a model for lasting learning opportunities as the response to SDG4 which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
