Education goals for Tadala abc Primary School

Three years ago, Tadala abc Primary School set an ambitious goal. It aimed to become the first primary school in the Njewa Education Division to achieve a 100% pass rate. The initiative reflected our commitment to educational excellence and accountability in the region.

We also aimed for at least 50% of learners’ selection to National Secondary Schools. This focus underscored the importance of strong foundational learning and ongoing student support. Providing teachers with resources and training was part of the plan to sustain progress.

This effort supports education in Malawi for children. It signals a long-term commitment to improving learning outcomes across the district. By sharing best practices and tracking progress, schools can learn from Tadala’s experience. Community stakeholders are encouraged to support similar efforts to uplift learning.

Today, we are proud to say that this milestone has been achieved and exceeded. All 11 Standard 8 learners passed. They completed their Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations, giving the school a 100% pass rate.

Even more remarkably, six learners, 66% of the cohort were selected to National Secondary Schools on scholarship.

This achievement is particularly significant because these learners were the first Standard 8 cohort at Tadala abc Primary School.

Moreover, they are becoming the first children in their families to progress to secondary school, illustrating education in Malawi.

Education in Malawi and our approach

But behind these numbers is a story that cannot be captured by a results sheet alone. At the heart of MATCH Foundation’s approach is the belief that academic success does not happen in isolation.

Learners need supportive teachers and personalized learning. They also require opportunities to participate in sports and extracurricular activities, adequate nutrition, and an environment that supports their well-being.

Most importantly, they need opportunities to learn by doing and apply what they learn to real-life situations. This approach supports education in Malawi.

This whole-child approach is central to our model. The results remind us what is possible when children receive the right support and opportunities to thrive.

During the school’s send-off ceremony, one parent shared the transformation’s impact on his family. Additionally, he said, “Surely my child may have failed if she was still in another school.” He noted she always struggled in class and never brought home good results.

What is happening at this school is transformative. Look at me; I have a girl child going to secondary school now, said Mr Chikondi.

Stories like this give meaning to the numbers.

They remind us that every successful learner represents a family whose hopes are growing.

Moreover, a community is beginning to see what is possible.

As we begin a new academic year, we celebrate this historic achievement. We recognize that it marks only the beginning. This moment shows dedication to learners in the Njewa Education Division and effort to improve schooling.

We are more determined than ever to maintain the standards we have set and build on this success. Additionally, we will continue raising standards for education in Malawi. We will ensure diverse communities have access to safe schools and skilled teachers. Across the country.
